There is something beautiful about maternity photography no matter where you live. The celebration of an upcoming new life is always exciting. You could probably take maternity photos in a dumpster and it would still be beautiful. Okay, maybe not a dumpster, but you get the idea. I had the recent privilege of traveling to Oahu, Hawaii for a quick trip with my son. First Elena asked me to take a few photos of her and husband Steven, but eventually the news broke: they were having a baby! I was so excited to be able to capture their maternity session in such a beautiful part of the world. The sunsets are amazing. The views are stunning. And the weather was perfect.
I first met Steven and Elena in Denver, Colorado when we attended church together. They had moved from California earlier that year. It wasn’t long before Steven signed up for the Navy and was stationed in Monterey Bay, CA. So back to California they went! After initial training the Dossett’s were unfortunate enough to be moving to Ohau to continue Steven’s service. Ha! After being asked to take their pictures I set about the task of finding a beautiful location. Seems easy enough right? Well, not if you don’t know the island that well. My first place was going to be the southwest tip of the island right at the edge of the sunset. However, I discovered that the trail was closed the day we had planned the session. So we went to Haleiwa and found another beautiful spot called Pua’ena Point. The sunset did not disappoint! It is a treasure seeing “old” friends and being able to watch their family grow.
